A short retention checklist (FRE 702, as amended Dec 2023)

1. Confirm the licence or certification the opinion depends on, in the register of the issuing body.
2. Ask for testimony history and any prior exclusions, and check them against the transcript databases you already subscribe to.
3. Fix the fee schedule, minimum, and cancellation terms in the engagement letter before records move.
4. Calendar the disclosure deadline backwards from the expert's report date, not forwards from today.
